Why Use Travel Insurance Print E-mail
Sunday, 26 November 2006
When thinking about insuring your next trip, your first question will probably be “why bother?”  Are the risks really that great?  Is it really worth the trouble?  In a word, yes – for the price, at least.  Travel insurance rates for a two person, two-week trip to Europe are often less than a hundred American dollars.  Considering the fact that travel insurance covers everything from trip cancellations to lost baggage to theft to local medical bills, this is well worth the cost.

It used to be a hassle to actually find travel insurance.  Thanks to today’s world of technology and the Internet, this isn’t nearly as difficult as it might sound at first.  A simple Google search for “travel insurance” will bring up enough options to meet any situation you might have.  You can even get travel insurance for specific activities such as scuba diving by simply searching for something like this:  “travel insurance scuba diving.”  The Internet makes it easy.

You may also wish to go through an independent insurance search engine, such as InsureYourTrip.com.  By filling out a simple description of your trip in terms of duration, number of travelers, and location, you can instantly get a list of competing companies and packages, making it a matter of minutes to find and choose the right package for you.

Take a look around and find the right travel insurance for you.  There are a vast number of options out there, applicable to any situation.  So, if you want peace of mind on your next trip, definitely think about buying travel insurance.  You won’t regret it.

Travel Insurance Small Print

Like any major financial decision, it is always important to read the fine print when purchasing a travel insurance package plan.  Travel insurance is very helpful and can mean the difference between stress and peace of mind on a long overseas trip, but it’s always a good idea to know what you have.

When checking out travel insurance either online or through a third party, always make sure you get the term definitions.  Most travel insurance packages will recompense you for “trip cancellations” – but do you know what that really means?  Look into it, because a “cancellation” could be caused by anything from a sick child to an act of terrorism.

Also check your travel dates.  Some travel insurance policies end on the day you’ve scheduled yourself to return.  If you change your mind and decide to return home a few days late, you may no longer be covered by your insurance package.  Make sure your insurance will cover you right up to the time you come home.

If you’re going to be traveling to a more dangerous part of the world, the fine print is especially important.  Standard travel insurance packages rarely cover things like war, items confiscated in customs, or injuries arising from extreme sports like skydiving or rock climbing.  You may have to look into getting more specialized forms of insurance, if any of these apply to you.

You may have to plow through a few pages of text buried somewhere within your provider’s website, but knowing the fine print under which you’ll be traveling is well worth the trouble.  If you’re going to take risks anyway, you might as well know which ones are covered by your travel insurance policy.
